Here are five to try.
Walter's Hot Dogs, 200 Commons Park South, Stamford: This is the second location of a century-old landmark in Mamaroneck which opened in Stamford in 2017. The Harbor Point green hut looks like the original. The hot dogs come with signature house-made mustard or ketchup.
Daniel M. of New York City wrote on Yelp, "...best hot-dog spot in the tristate area. Nothing compares to Walter's. Not much to say, just an amazing hotdog and atmosphere."
The Wienery, 17 Bridge St., Stamford: Theirs are Sabrett natural casing hot dogs on Pepperidge Farm rolls and you can top them with homemade chili, an option, according to the restaurant.
John M. of Norwalk says in a Yelp post. "Just had a delicious chili dog at this spot and it's exactly the kind of local gem that makes my heart sing." The hot dogs are sliced in half and grilled then put on a toasted roll, according to the same post.
Burgers, Shakes & Fries, 302 Delavan Ave., Greenwich: This is a small corner neighborhood eatery that serves its namesake foods plus this entree, "One, Two, Add Sauerkraut, Add Onion & Tomato Sauce" from a short menu.
Matt S. of Los Angeles mentions the dogs in a Yelp post, "Throw in a delicious all-beef hot dog and sweet potato tots and we ate like kings."
Duchess Family Restaurant, 157 Main St., Norwalk: Yes, that Duchess. The chain draws plenty of locals and students from the community college. They have the "Works" and "Chili Dog" on a bargain menu.
Danny B. of Norwalk says on Yelp, "I recommend getting the hot dogs. That's what they are known for."
The White Buffalo NC, 136 1/2 Elm St, New Canaan: Go in for dinner for a nicely priced quick meal. The spot is smallish but classic with a paneled wall and American flag, tables, chairs, and counter service. Hot dogs are on a varied menu.
Claire A. of Brooklyn, New York posted on Yelp, "...Such a great atmosphere: warm, welcoming, and full of energy. We ordered the soft pretzels and had two truly stellar hot dogs, each packed with delicious toppings."
